Blood Moon

Selene, sometimes known as Mene, was the second aspect of the Moon to the Greeks. She was the daughter of hyperion and Theia, a Titaness, and the sister of Helios and Eos. Selene personified the Moon as a bride and a lover. She was pictures as a beautiful woman with a golden crown. The deity had great importance in magick, spells and enchantments. Often we find ourselves out of synch with the Moon and her powers. Usually this happens when we have been too involved in material, physical matters and have not given enough time to spiritual development. this meditation is good for correcting that condition and should be performed during a full moon. it is also useful when we need to renew our spiritual initiation and communication with the Moon Goddess. this meditative ritual is taken from the book MOON MAGICK by D. J. Conway.
Set up an alter with a silver or white cloth. Light a white candle and sit it to the center. if you wish have a vase of white flowers on the alter. before the candle, place a chalice of water, white juice or wine. Burn a little powdered gum mastic and mugwort. dress in white or silver. Put a comfortable chair near the alter to sit and play soft, dreamy instrumental music. Say:
Silently she rides the night, the silver mother crystal clear.
Her gifts are subtle, changing my path, yet lovingly erasing fear.
Mother of the Magick Moon, I chant your sacred name divine,
and follow to true destinies that lead to higher realms than mine.
Close your eyes and relax your body. Before you is a silver path that leads from the earth up to the Moon. You find yourself swiftly ascending the path. the spiritual Moon is not at all like the physical Moon. The Moon garden of Selene if full of pale flowers and green trees. In the center of this garden, before a shallow pool filled with water lilies stands a small round temple with open sides. its columns are covered with flowering vines. inside sits the Moon Goddess Selene, waiting for you.
you sit beside Selene and gaze into her deep eyes. Her long silver-blonde hair falls to her hips. her white dress is held at the waist by a silver belt. she smiles and gathers you into her arms in an embrace.
"Sister (Brother), " she says in her soft voice, "I am glad you came."
Selene speaks to you about your spiritual goals and what you have accomplished in that area so far. She may make suggestions to you as to what would help you. You can tell her about your problems if they touch upon the spiritual, especially if you are being persecuted or ridiculed for your beliefs.
when your conversation is over, Selene takes your hand and leads you out to stand beside a lily pond. a group of men and women come to stand with you. they are all dressed in white. one of them hands the goddess a silver chalice. she lifts it to your lips and you drink.
then she stoops and picks up a water lily. with great solemness, Selene places the flower on the top of your head. you feel it sink down into your body. she tells you that this flower will help to balance and realign your sacred centers in the astral body. You feel the flower begin to work its spiritual magick. you become aware of a subtle heartbeat rhythm all around you. Selene says that this is the rhythm of the moon, and influence all humans could hear and feel if they would listen.
Another of the Moons attendants holds out a silver disk on a chain. the goddess slips this over your head. Selene whispers that this emblem is a sign of your Moon initiation, that it is a key to her realm whenever you want to return.
the attendant who brought the pendant comes forward and takes your hand. this person is to be one of your spiritual teachers and guardians. Selene kisses you once more and goes back to her temple. the new teacher goes with you back down the path of moonlight to the earth. beautiful music is heard all around you. you slide back into your physical body and open your eyes. Gaze at the candle again and say:
Moon Magick, visions and dreamy inspiration.
The Moon is darkened in the sky.
Astral travel, healing and intuition.
The moon is a silver sliver in the sky.
Prophetic dreams, luck and divination.
The Moon is a crystal ball in the sky.
Three phases of the Moon, three phases of me life,
Youth , maturity and great wisdom.
Let me be guided by your deep symbolism.
Sprinkle water from the chalice around your working space and onto yourself. call upon your new teacher whenever you need help in ritual, magick and spiritual insight.
